Middleburgh – Thomas J. Vollkommer, of Cotton Hill Road, found eternal peace on Wednesday, May 13, 2020.
Tom was born in South Hempstead, NY to Mildred (Bedell) and Jacob Vollkommer on August 13, 1941. He worked for the Garden City School District before retiring as assistant head custodian and eventually fulfilled his lifelong dream of moving to upstate New York, with his loving wife, in 2003.
Tom loved watching sports; especially horse racing, the New York Mets, and Ohio State Buckeyes, and going to casinos with his friends and family. He was the quintessential prankster and loved to make people laugh, earning their love and admiration in return.
Nothing, however, gave him more joy than the love of his family. He married his beautiful wife, Mary Ann (Messina), on July 29, 1961 and together they spent over 58 years together, seemingly a lifetime, yet not long enough for her or their family, including his sons: Robert Vollkommer (Lois Vollkommer), Dennis Simmons (Ron Simmons), and Michael Vollkommer (Christine Vollkommer); his grandchildren: Vinny Vollkommer and Elizabeth Vollkommer; his sister Joan Wittmann (Raymond Wittmann); his niece Patricia Palmieri and a large extended family.
Private services will be at the family's convenience and they appreciate you remembering Tom and them through this time.
Tom’s family requests donations be made to a charity of your choice in his honor.
Coltrain Funeral Home, LLC of Middleburgh is honored to be caring for Tom and his family.
