Middleburgh – Ronald C. Smith, 77, found eternal peace on Monday, January 4, 2021 from declining health.
Ronald was born in Albany, on May 4, 1943 to Irma M. (Van Tassell) and Victor C. Smith. He graduated from Middleburgh Central School in 1961 and went on to serve in the United States Navy from 1961-1965. Proud of being a Veteran, Ron was a member of the Timothy Murphy American Legion Post # 248 in Middleburgh for many years.
A competent mechanic, he partnered with his friend, William Armlin and together they operated A&S Garage on Route 30 from 1965-1999. Through the years, Ron also worked at General Electric, NAPA and drove school bus for Middleburgh Central School. He retired from the NYS Dept. of Parks and Recreation, where he was a supervisor and mechanic at Thatcher Park.
Ron’s love of people visiting and history ensured that his motorhome trip across the United States was a great experience, that he shared with family and friends along the route and upon his return. He was also an active member of the Middleburgh Historical Society and the MCS Alumni Association for many years.
Ron will be loved and remembered forever by his sons: Ronald C. (Fay) Smith, Jr. and Roger (Shannon) Smith, all of Middleburgh; his grandchildren: Olivia M. Smith, Chloe E. Smith, Casey V. Smith, Austin L. Smith and Sheridan K. Smith; his special friend: Doris Webb of Middleburgh and her sons: Richard, Steven and John Webb and their families; his siblings: Cheryle, Cary and Colleen. Besides his parents, Ron was predeceased by his sister Lana.
A memorial graveside service will be held in the spring in Middleburgh Cemetery. Coltrain Funeral Home, LLC, 134 River Street, Middleburgh is honored to be caring for Ron and his family.
