Oakley Wayman Obituary

Oakley F. Wayman, 80, of Huntersland Road, Middleburgh, passed away peacefully with his family by his side at home, on Monday, October 16, 2023.

Oakley was born in Summit on December 2, 1942, to Edna (Ream) and Earl Wayman.  He attended Richmondville Central School, graduating in 1961 and served in the United States Army from 1962 to 1965.  Returning home, he completed his college degree and graduated from SUNY Cobleskill in 1967.

Oakley married his wife, Betty in September of 1966 and they settled in Middleburgh, starting Wayman’s Auction Barn in 1970, expanding over the years to a furniture store and many other successful public service businesses.  Oakley and Betty retired in 2009, letting their family take over the reins of the business.

Oakley enjoyed yard sales and flea markets and had a keen eye for a good deal.  He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, card games and he had a love of farm tractors, both buying, selling and his personal collection.

Oakley was a past member of the Huntersland Volunteer Fire Department, the former  Middleburgh Lions Club, the NRA, the Timothy Murphy Post # 248 American Legion and the Middleburgh Rod & Gun Club.

Winters were spent in the warmth of his Florida residence.  An active member of the North Oak Baptist Church in Citrus Springs, Florida, the church was named in his honor, being from the North and known as “Oak” to many, his devotion to the church and his steadfast faith are part of his legacy.

Loving and cherishing his life and memory forever are his wife of 57 years: Betty A. Wayman, his daughters: Brenda, Sandy, Tiffany, Mary (Ethan), and Patricia (Josh); his sons: Frank and Robert (Shy); his treasured grandchildren: Ted, Nick (Dale), Mitchell, Rachell, Miranda, Tobias, Susan and Lucas; his cherished great-grandchildren: Trent, Emily, Bentley, Kaylee and Jacob; his sisters: Dorlian (Chuck), Susan (Dave) and Sally; brother: Dave (Barb); sister-in-law: Betty; many beloved nieces and nephews; extended family: Salvador Conway, who was lovingly referred to as the 8th child; and many friends. Oakley was predeceased by his parents and his brothers: Lynn and Larry and his granddaughter: Megan.
