Margaret "Peggy" Horsman Obituary

Middleburgh - Quiet, warm, unassuming, yet strong-willed with an unwavering faith, Margaret Ann “Peggy” Earls Horsman, 85, was welcomed to Heaven on Saturday, January 18, 2020.

Born in Albany on September 8, 1934 to Marguerite (Meier) and Raymond W. Earls. Peggy grew up in Middleburgh on the family’s dairy and sheep farm on Route 145. She graduated from Middleburgh Central School in 1952 and the Albany Memorial Hospital School of Nursing in 1957.  Peggy’s professional career as a registered Nurse included Albany Memorial Hospital, Cobleskill Hospital, and caring for students and faculty for many years at Middleburgh Central School.  She was also a nurse at the Word of Life summer camp and taught nursing students at Albany Memorial Hospital.

Throughout her life, Peggy was active with the 4H, Girl Scouts and the Franklinton Grange at the local, State and National levels. Her beautiful smile and tender warmth were known by many in our community as she was a member of the Middleburgh Century Club, the Middleburgh United Methodist Church and the Valley Bible Baptist Church.  Peggy also held a 50-year membership with the Middleburgh Emergency Volunteer Ambulance Corps and was honored to be one of their Grand Marshalls in the 2018 Fall Festival Parade.

Peggy was predeceased in death by her husband Dr. David Horsman, a local Optometrist; her brother Allen Earls; and brother-in-law Winthrop “Skip” Ames.

Her loving family includes her son Jeffrey Horsman of Raleigh, NC; sister Julia Ames of Horseheads; sister Martha (Gary) Doane of Raleigh, NC; nieces and nephew of Raleigh NC: Allen and Michelle Ames, Marlea Doane (John) Ward and Joelle Doane (Brad) Pemberton, grandnieces Lilly and Julia Pemberton, grandnephew Townsend Ward, several cousins, and many close friends including Barbara Coons and Patricia Bender of Middleburgh.

Her family would like thank Barbara Coons, Patricia Bender, Linda Hauser and the Staff at Elcor Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Horseheads, NY for the loving care they provided to Peggy during her illness.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday, January 25, 2020 at 12:00 PM at the Valley Bible Baptist Church, 745 Mineral Springs Road, Cobleskill, NY 12043 with Pastor Shawn Foster officiating.  Guests are also invited to visit with her family from 11:00 – 11:45 AM, prior to the funeral. Spring interment will be in the Middleburgh Cemetery.
