John Yung Obituary

As his favorite toast exclaims, “A gentleman and a scholar” passed away on Wednesday, December 8, 2021.  John W. Yung, of Gates Hill Road, was definitely that and as the toast continues, “unsurpassed in many ways.”

John was born 78 years ago on February 8, 1943 in Brooklyn, but grew up in Middleburgh and found the love of his life at Middleburgh Central School.  After graduation and completing four years in the United States Navy, he married, Rose (Szarewicz) Yung, on May 16 1964. High school sweethearts, their love has only grown stronger each year and stronger with their family.

John’s favorite time was spent on his hill, being in the solace of nature.  His keen eyes and patience ensured successful hunting, even weeks before his final day.  John even graced a trail camera as a lasting tribute of his love of nature and hunting.  And he loved feeding and watching the hummingbirds around his home almost as much as he loved and cherished his family.  His favorite quote continues, “a connoisseur of fine wines and beverages,” John’s passion was for good Bourbon.  Interestingly, he never bought a single bottle, but it was always gifted to him.  He was also known for breaking many things and possessing the keen ability to also fix each project to better than new.  In closing his favorite quote, “there aren’t many of us left,” which is very true of men like John. Whether around his home or with his working at Walter Motor Truck Company- KME for over 35 years before retiring, his skill, humor and devotion were his trademark.

And while all things will pass, John’s love and memory will be held forever by his wife Rose; his sons: “Ed” Yung of Middleburgh, “Mike" (Damarys) Yung of Albany and Jason (Brenda) Yung of Monterey, TN; his grandchildren: Andrew Yung, Elizabeth Yung, Kimberly (Mike) Yung, Jennifer Yung, Jason Yung, Jr., Sydney Yung, Joshua Yung, Jessica Yung, Jevin Lopez and Marcos Lopez; great-grandchild: Shea Yung; siblings: Anthony C Yung, Jr. of Cobleskill, Beatrice Grabowski of Bethpage, Catherine Stempel of Raleigh, NC, Joan Flitcroft of Middleburgh, Dorothy Moon of Cobleskill, Patricia (Dale) Rogers of Jefferson; many nieces, nephews and friends.  He was predeceased by his parents: Beatrice (Thall) and Anthony C. Yung, Sr.; siblings: Fredrick Yung, Mary Lou Cahill and Alice Stanton.
