Irene Mary Gilmore (nee Montgomery) of Oceanside, California passed peacefully on September 9, 2023 surrounded by family, in Rensselaerville, NY.
She had traveled to NY the third week of July to attend one of her granddaughter's weddings. While she never made the wedding, her love and devotion to her family was certainly present.
Born at home on May 13, 1938 in Astoria, NY. to Irene L. and John T. Montgomery, she was the third of five children. Raised and active in the Episcopal faith, she was later received into the Roman Catholic Church on July 3, 2012. Irene was very active in her faith and always volunteered hours of service to her churches, lay reading, preparing, washing and pressing linens along with countless other tasks as needed.
On May 14, 1960, she married her first husband Michael John McCarron and welcomed three children; Marie, James (Michelle) and John (Christine).
In 1984 Irene moved to southern California where she met her second husband Jack H Gilmore and on November 28,1998 they were married. With a shared faith, the two were also very active in their church, as well as Masonic and Elk Lodge events. Irene loved Jack's family as her own and together they often traveled to visit their families around the country and Canada. Together the two also volunteered thousands of hours of service to Senior Volunteer Patrol for the California Highway Patrol assisting with both road and safety patrols as well as office duties.
Irene was also an active lifelong member of Order of The Eastern Star and Daughters of The Nile. She Earned her Associate degree later in life and held jobs in the Airline, Defense and Insurance Industries.
She was predeceased by her parents, her two husbands, her two sisters: Joan and Susan and her beloved cousins.
She leaves behind her three children and five grandchildren: Sabrina, Meghan (Ryan), Michael, Kaitlyn and Abigail; her siblings: Mary Lou and Hugh (Joann) along with many nieces, nephews, friends and extended family, as well as her beloved husband Jack's family.
A visitation with Irene’s family will be held from 12:00-2:00PM, with a Memorial Service immediately following at 2:00PM on Saturday, October 21, 2023 at Coltrain Funeral Home, LLC, 134 River Street Middleburgh, NY 12122, followed by an Irish wake at the home of Jim and Michelle.
A Funeral Mass will be held on November 17, 2023 at 11:00AM at St Patrick's in Carlsbad CA, 3821 Adams Street, Carlsbad CA. 92008 with reception details to be announced.
A private interment will be held at a later date at Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery in San Diego.
