Henry H. Witt, Jr., died peacefully on Monday, October 18, 2021 following declining health.
Henry was born 91 years ago on October 13, 1930 in Sharon, CT to Laura (Lehman) and Henry H. Witt, Sr.
Henry graduated from Middleburgh Central School and went on to serve in the United States Navy from 1955-1957. After his Military service, Henry returned to his beloved Schoharie Valley and was a lifelong dairy farmer, owning and operating Middle Fort Farm. Henry retired in 1987 after selling the farm and moved to Ft. Myers, Florida, where he lived for 20 years. While in Florida, Henry greeted patrons at the local Hess Station and also lent his knowledge and work ethic to the local citrus plant in Ft. Myers for 5 years.
He also enjoyed growing heritage hops from the Schoharie Valley and planting them wherever he lived.
Henry not only loved the land and the animals on his farm, he also had a deep love of his community and his faith. He was a member of St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in Middleburgh, member and past-president of the Lions Club in Middleburgh and Ft. Myers, the Farm Bureau in Middleburgh for 20 years, he attended many Agway Conventions through the years and traveled all across the United States and Europe whenever he was able.
Henry’s love and memory will be held forever in the hearts of his wife, Renate (Hensen) Witt, whom he married on September 10, 1957; his children: Bonnie (James) Spencer of Altamont, Glenn (Jean) Witt of Aylett, VA; grandsons: Tyler (Chelsea) Witt of Aylett, VA, Eric (Amber) Witt of Mechanicsville, VA; sister: Nora Van Deusen of Cobleskill; Kelvin (Nan) Nahrwold of Middleburgh, Mary (Duane) Mercer of Middleburgh, Marcia (BJ) Drogsler of Queens and many great-nieces and nephews. Henry was predeceased by his grandson: James Wyatt Spencer.
Henry’s wishes for a private memorial service will be honored with his family at Coltrain Funeral Home, LLC, 134 River Street, Middleburgh and they thank you for remembering Henry and them through this time.
