Florence B. Mattice

Florence B. Mattice, of Guinea Road, died peacefully on Sunday, May 28, 2023 at Robinson Terrace in Stamford. 

Flo was born 102 years ago on September 1, 1920 in Luzerne, NY to Edith (Mosher) and Edward Brady.  She graduated from Corinth Central School in 1938 and earned her Bachelors Degree from Oneonta State Teacher's College in 1942.  Flo taught at Gilboa-Central School and subbed at Middleburgh Central for many years before retiring. 

A farm girl at heart, she loved being at home on the hill, tending to the chores, keeping her family and all of the animals, especially the Holstein cows.  She was also passionate about watching the beautiful birds that visited every season.  From Cardinals, Blue Jays, Hummingbirds and all of the others, she could name them or reference her library of books in search of their names.  She did not share the same affection for the pesky squirrels and was quite the shot with her BB gun when keeping them at bay from the feeders!

Flo was a longtime member of the Broome Center Chapel Church and the Gilboa Historical Society.

Loving her forever are her daughters: Linda (John) Warner of Middleburgh and Karen Ferdinandi of San Antonio, TX; her son: Jay E. (Donna) Mattice of Middleburgh; grandchildren: J.R. Warner, Melanie Hulbert, Janine Putman, Christine Preston, Donald Mattice, Edward Ferdinandi, Noelle Ferdinandi; many great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren and her dear friend: Marilyn Pasquarella. Florence was predeceased by her beloved husband and soulmate: Jay R. Mattice on March 25, 2004, whom she married on Christmas Day, 1943 and also by her son-in-law: Edwin Ferdinandi.

Florence's wishes for a private family service are being honored.
