Cynthia "Skeetz" Polak

Middleburgh – Cynthia “Skeetz” Polak was born in Cobleskill on January 28, 1941 to Helen and Bill Armlin. Growing up in Middleburgh, she loved the entire area and stayed here for her entire life. 

Each season brought a new adventure for Skeetz.  She learned at a young age to drive trucks, play cards swim and have a zest for life. She married young, had children and learned as she went through life that the most important thing is family. For many years she owned and operated the A&S Diner with her sister, Gail Smith.  They also shared a softball team, “A&S Angels.”  They owned the Main Rail bar, after the diner, where they hosted card games, parties, dances and were renowned for their food and happy atmosphere.  When she married her husband Joe, she joined him and went trucking all over, smiling when she spoke of their adventures together. Later, she spent every minute possible with the greatest joys of her life, her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.  Her life was filled with the love of her family and close friends, who were all by her side when she passed away on Saturday February 27, 2021 after 80 beautiful years of life.  Skeetz leaves a legacy of love and memories with each of them.

Skeetz was predeceased by her infant son: John Westerman; granddaughter: Kyla Schmidt; grandson: Ricky Coons; daughters: Julie Beretz and Kathy Coons Waldron; sisters: Phyllis Crewell, Laura Armlin and Clara Armlin.

She will be loved forever by her husband: Joseph Polak, whom she married in 1979; her sons: Steve Smith, Steven Nicholson, Mike Nicholson, Steve Polak; Daughter: Linda Leith; granddaughters: Renee Schmidt, Jade Roe, Katie Greaven, Crystal Leek; grandsons: Daniel Leith, William Leith, John Beretz; Sisters: Gail Smith, Patricia Stewart, Karen Muller; brothers: William Armlin, Chet Armlin, Keith Armlin; many great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and friends and cousins.

Skeetz was looking forward to nicer weather and losing about fifty pounds for summer, as she said.  She expressed her wishes for cremation, because it was her last chance of a “smoking hot body!”  Her family will hold a memorial graveside service in nicer weather and her urn will be laid to rest in the family cemetery on Armlin Hill.
