Beth Wood Obituary

Middleburgh – Cancer is a word like no other, but it is not as strong in word or in presence as the word love or the word fight.  And throughout the fight, strength comes from love and both strength and love grow in everyone near.

Beth M. Wood, of Middleburgh, filled her life with love and a burning desire to fight until the very end, when wrapped in the love of her family and friends, she found eternal peace from the courageous fight on January 10, 2020.

Born in Nuremberg, Germany on April 16, 1966 during her father’s military service, she grew up locally and graduated from Cobleskill High School in 1985.  Instilled with a strong work ethic early on, Beth’s beautiful smile greeted the patrons of McDonald’s in Cobleskill for 31 years before the Purcell’s were blessed to have her join their work family, as a manager, at Grapevine Farms in Cobleskill, adding her touch of style and class to their already incredible establishment.

Love encompassed Beth’s life, in word and in deed. She was always giving of herself, her time and her talents to benefit our community. From hosting community and school fundraisers at McDonald’s, to serving on the Board of Directors of the Marathon For A Better Life, Beth shared love, strength and support with other families in their fight.

Beth’s world revolved around her family, whether at home, supporting her sons’ sporting events while in school, vacationing to Mexico or to their beloved Cape Cod. While Beth was fond of sand dunes and salty air, she found her greatest joy and medicine however, with her beautiful grandchildren that lit up her entire world.

She was proudest too of the men in her life, sharing over 28 years with her best friend and sweetheart: David K. Wood, whom she married on October 12, 1991 and their sons: Bryan (Cadie) Wood and Mitchell (Emily) Wood, all of Middleburgh. Her light will shine in them forever and also in her grandchildren: Madelynn and Michael of Middleburgh; her parents: Barbara (Gillespie) and Gerard Cleary; her sister: Diane (Jeff) Van Deusen; her niece: Sydney Van Deusen, all of Cobleskill; her father-in-law: Keith Wood of Middleburgh; her sisters-in-law: Sue (Gary) Makely of Middleburgh, Cindi (Mike) Lisuzzo of Halfmoon; her adopted sisters: Lynn Bartholomew and Kris Wood; her family at Grapevine Farms, her Marathon family, many special friends, an extended family beyond counting and her beloved Rottweiler, Gunner.

A celebration of Beth’s life and love will be held at 3:00PM on Thursday, January 16, 2020 at Coltrain Funeral Home, LLC, 134 River Street, Middleburgh. All are invited to visit with her family from 12:00PM to 3:00PM on Thursday, prior to the celebration.
