Zachary
Bennett
May 19, 1989 – April 4, 2026
Zachary Bennett, of Middleburgh, passed away of natural causes on Saturday, April 4 2026 in the warmth and love of his home.
Zachary was born on May 19, 1989 in Cobleskill to Leslie (Cummings) and Michael Bennett. Growing up, Zachary attended Middleburgh Central School and kept his parents on their toes, a free spirit he wasn't one to be tamed. It's interesting how events shape our lives. Following a traumatic brain injury, from a car accident in 2017, and after many surgeries, long hospital and rehab stays, Zachary found his inner strength and worked tirelessly to overcome his physical disabilities.
Zachary beat the odds to persevere and with hard work learned how to walk, talk and function, becoming a pillar of strength and inspiration. Zachary attended a TBI program at Millview where he learned again and became a mentor to many.
Still that free spirit, Zachary lived as independently as possible. He inspired many others and participated in the FCA adaptive sports program and especially the Hoop Dreams basketball game every year. He was very proud and known as "Bankshot Bennett," a highlight in his life. His perseverance and hard work along with his friendly and outgoing personality was beloved by many. He was a bright shining light who made friends wherever he went, inspiring others to work hard.
A diehard fan, he never stopped to chat without mentioning his Buffalo Bills and proudly wore all their apparel and decorated his room the same.
Zachary will be very missed by everyone who knew him. His smile, hope, strength, determination and love are his legacy and how much brighter the world can be if we remember to share them in his honor.
Loving Zachary forever are his mother: Leslie Bennett; his brother: Dustin Bennett; and many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. Zachary was predeceased by his father Michael R. Bennett.
A celebration of Zachary's life will be held on a date to be announced and his family thanks you for remembering them through this time.
Zachary's family requests memorial donations in his honor be sent to Millview Day Program 5 Pine West Plaza Albany NY 12205, or to the Capital Region FCA 152 MT Path Middleburgh NY 12122
