IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Spencer Eldred
Coltrain
August 5, 1926 – April 19, 2017
Lexington, NC: Spencer Eldred Coltrain, 90, of High Rock Lake, and formerly of Trinity, passed away peacefully at his home on Wednesday, April 19, 2017.
He was born on August 5, 1926, the son of John R. and Lydia B. Coltrain, in Williamston, Martin County, NC, and attended school there. He was the last survivor of seven sons and two daughters.
Spencer was a Veteran of the United States Army, serving his country in the South Pacific during World War II and was decorated with multiple medals.
He enjoyed sharing his passions with his best friend and wife, Ruby Lee Hill Coltrain, who preceded him in death in 2011, after sharing 62 wonderful years of marriage. They totally enjoyed fishing, gardening, making candies and wonderful treats, which they shared with family and friends, all fortunate to be around.
He was of the Quaker faith and was a member of Archdale Friends Church where he had been a Sunday School teacher and was very active in his church. He and his family had lived the adult part of his life in Trinity and was known to be a wonderful neighbor and friend.
Spencer successfully operated Coltrain Lumber Company, a trucking business in Trinity for over 30 years. He retired to High Rock Lake to feed all the ducks and birds that came every day for corn and friendship.
Spencer is survived by a son, Larry Coltrain and wife, Dru, of High Point; daughters, Susan Shuler and husband, Tommy, of Lexington and Debbie Skakle and husband, Andy, of Cary; six grandchildren, Chadd Coltrain, Landi Bregman, Lauren Slack, Austin Skakle, Auburn Skakle, and Spencer Skakle; and six adorable great grandchildren. He is also survived by a daughter by choice, Polly Queen and husband, Dale and many nieces, nephews and friends.
A Funeral will be 3:00 pm Sunday in the chapel of Cumby Family Funeral Service in Archdale, officiated by Pastor Rusty Parsons. Interment will follow in Mt. Vernon United Methodist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends beginning at 1:30 on Sunday, at the funeral home.
Memorials may be made to Archdale Friends Meeting, 114 Trindale Rd., Archdale, NC 27263.
