March 5, 1933 – February 10, 2025
Russell L. Miller, 91 of Middleburgh, New York, passed away February 10, 2025. Russ was born March 5, 1933 in Cobleskill, New York and was number nine of eleven children of parents Emma (Hartwell) and Lucies Miller.
As a child, Russ grew up on his family farm. He then went on to fulfill his military duty in Okinawa during the Korean War and was honorably discharged from the United States Army where he was a Private First Class in the 28th and 5th Infantries. After the Army, Russ spent 35 years as a steam engine technician at General Electric prior to his retirement in 1994. Russ was also a member of the American Legion Susquehanna Trails Post 1764 (Gilboa, New York) for 66 years.
Russ had a great love for nature. He enjoyed getting outside and walking around town, Sunday drives, having coffee with the guys at McDonald's, traveling, square dancing, puzzles, playing dominoes; and tinkering and modifying things around the house. He had an infectious smile, a great sense of humor, the kindest heart, he truly loved life and lived his to the absolute fullest.
Sharing his love and laughter forever are his beloved wife and soulmate of 39 years, Mavis; his daughters Dody Hayes (Kevin) and Laurie Watson (Keith); his son Dee-Jay McCumber (Linda); his grandchildren Cheyenne Brasmeister (Austin); Hannah Meyer (Austen); Ryan Loftus (Monica); Christopher Maughan (Kaitie); Daniel McCumber (Kaitlin); Elizabeth George (Gunner); his great granddaughters Charlotte Brasmeister and Billie McCumber; along with many nieces, nephews and friends.
A private celebration of life with military honors will be planned for a later date.
