IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Peter D.
Shulman
February 13, 1937 – May 12, 2025
Peter Donald Shulman passed away peacefully on May 12, 2025, at 18:18 hours. Born on February 13, 1937 in Lawrence, NY, to Simon and Eleanor Shulman, Peter lived a life of service, creativity, and unwavering dedication to his community.
As Planning and Zoning Board Chairman in Wolfeboro, NH, he established enduring development precedents and revitalized the town's natural history museum into a celebrated institution. Later, in Provincetown, MA, and Schoharie County, NY, he continued working with respected colleagues to shape communities with rare integrity, chairing commissions well into his 80s.
Though his early years saw him shine as an artist in New York City's avant-garde scene, exhibiting alongside legends like Warhol and Lichtenstein, with work displayed in the MoMA and Chrysler Museum, Peter's truest calling was always people. After decades of distinguished service as a police commissioner, firefighter, and zoning leader he and his family planted roots in Schoharie County, where he humbly devoted himself to West Fulton with wisdom, humor, and tireless care.
To his family, Peter was a rock—a devoted husband, father, and friend, and a man of unconditional love, quiet strength, and endless generosity, he created a foundation his family will cherish forever. To West Fulton, he was a steward, a friend, and the kind of neighbor who made the world feel smaller and kinder.
He is survived by His wife Gaye Anee and son Peter.
A graveside service will be held at 11:00AM on Wednesday, May 21, 2025 in the Breakabeen Cemetery, Breakabeen NY,
In lieu of flowers, please honor him by serving your community with the same selflessness he embodied. "His legacy is not just in what he did, but in the lives he lifted."
