Obituary

Nora VanDeusen, 92, of Mineral Springs Road, Cobleskill, passed away peacefully in the comfort of her home on Monday November 11th, 2024.

Nora was born to Henry and Laura Witt on May 29rd, 1932 in Somerville, New Jersey, joining her older brother Henry Witt Jr.  As a child, she lived with her family in Germany for a short period of time before returning to the States and eventually settling in Middleburgh.  She graduated from Middleburgh Central School and furthered her studies with an associate's degree in Hotel and Restaurant Management from Paul Smith College.  After college, she and her husband, the late Arthur G Nahrwold, took the reins of the Nahrwold family farm, best known for their prominent herd of Ayrshire cattle.

As the matriarch of the household, she raised her three children while running the day-to-day workings of the farm.  She was also a bus driver for the Middleburgh school district for many years thereafter.  Nora later married LeRoy VanDeusen, who predeceased her in 2012. With this union, Nora's family grew with the addition of her stepsons: Doug, Jeff, and Larry and their families.  As a nature lover, she enjoyed her car rides with Roy, taking in the scenery from the backroads of Schoharie County, as well as their many snowmobile trips up to Maine.  Nora was a skilled seamstress, known around the community for her work.  Driving down Mineral Springs Road, one could always count on a friendly wave from Nora through the window as she sat at her table with her dogs on her lap, always keeping an eye out for animals and admiring the birds coming up to her bird feeder.

Nora is survived by her three children and their families: Kelvin Nahrwold and Nanette Wachter, Mary and Duane Mercer, and Marcia and BJ Drogsler; her grandchildren: Morgan and Ada, Mark, Amanda, Joelene, and Christopher, and Cory and Kristen; as well as her many great-grandchildren; sister-in-law: Renata: niece Bonnie and nephew Glenn. Also, a special thank you to her devoted home health aides over the past seven years.

A private celebration will be held at the family's convenience and they thank you for remembering Nora and them through this time. Donations in Nora's honor are requested to the Animal Shelter of Schoharie Valley, PO Box 40, Howes Cave, NY 12092.
