IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Nicholas J.
Juried
November 17, 1929 – January 11, 2025
We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of Nicholas J. Juried on January 11th at the age of 95 in Austin, TX. Nick was born on November 17, 1929 in Brooklyn, NY. He was the youngest of six children of parents Anna and John Juried. When he was 11, his family moved to the countryside of Gilboa and Middleburgh where he spent part of his youth on the family dairy farm. He graduated as valedictorian from Gilboa Central School in 1947. He went on to serve in the U.S Air Force as an Intelligence Officer during the Korean War. He received an emergency honorable discharge so he could return home when the family farm burned down. Over the years, he helped rebuild and revitalize the family farm after receiving his degree in Agricultural Economics at Cornell University.
Nicholas met his future wife, Dorothy, while at Cornell. They married in 1956 and their daughter, Amy, was born in 1957. In 1960, they moved back to Dorothy's home state of Texas. Nicholas built a successful advertising career, founding Nicholas Juried & Associates that specialized in providing premium, incentive and promotional products. After a move to Houston and then to Austin, Nicholas and Dorothy transformed an abandoned ranch into a thriving homestead in Sandy, TX. They landscaped the property, built a barn and other buildings, created gardens, orchards, raised chickens and guinea hens and even a vineyard from which they made their own wine. In their later years, the couple returned to Austin to enjoy retirement.
The Nicholas J. Juried Family Foundation was established to support nonprofits and initiatives focusing on history, education, animal welfare, women's reproductive rights and social justice issues.
Nicholas' enduring passion for his Gilboa roots was evident in his support of the Gilboa Historical Society and Gilboa Central School. His generosity reached many organizations across Schoharie County and beyond some of which are the Village of Middleburgh, Jefferson Art Room, The Gathering Place Senior Center, Iroquois Indian Museum, Mustang Valley Sanctuary, Bovina Historical Society, Fulton Historical Society, Dr. Best Museum, Schoharie Library, Animal Shelter of Schoharie County, Conesville Historical Society, Sharon Historical Society and George Landis Arboretum. The Nicholas J. Juried Foundation supported numerous non-profit organizations in Austin, TX as well. Some of which are Emancipet, Shadow Cats Sanctuary, Thundering Paws Sanctuary, Central Texas SPCA, Central Texas Wildlife Rescue, Planned Parenthood, Meals on Wheels and Central Texas Sustainable Food Bank.
Nicholas is survived by his daughter Amy Juried and many of his nieces, nephews and their children.
Spring inurnment will be in the Middleburgh Cemetery, at a date and time to be announced.
