IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Millie A.
Boxhoorn
August 21, 1936 – May 5, 2025
Millie (Mila) Boxhoorn, beloved mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully on May 5, 2025, with her daughters by her side. She was 88 years old.
Born in Preko, Croatia, in 1936, to Mate and Ivanica Kustera, Millie was raised with strong family values and a deep appreciation for life's simple joys. At the age of 18, she immigrated to the United States, bravely starting a new chapter in Brooklyn, New York.
Millie eventually found her home in the scenic hills of Gilboa, New York, where she worked at the NY Power Authority for nearly 20 years. She was the devoted wife of the late Jan Boxhoorn, the proud and selfless mother of Wilhelmina Boxhoorn (Colleen Ferris) and Heidi Boxhoorn (Mike Brown), and cherished grandmother of Max and Madison.
A kind and quick-witted soul, Millie had a gift for making everyone feel welcome and loved. She had a passion for gardening and cooking—activities that brought joy not only to her, but to those lucky enough to share in them. She enjoyed traveling back home to Croatia, Holland, the west coast and especially to NJ to spend time with her brother, sister, and many nieces and nephews. Her laughter, stories, and homemade meals will be remembered fondly by all who knew her.
To know Millie was truly to love her. Her presence was a blessing, and her memory will live on in the hearts of those she touched.
All are invited to visit with Millie's family from 4-6:00PM on May 14, 2025 at Coltrain Funeral Home, LLC 134 River Street, Middleburgh, NY. Everyone is invited to come share stories at a celebration of her life that will be held by her family later this summer.
