IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Joseph
Salomon
October 23, 1927 – January 13, 2018
Middleburgh – "Uncle" Joe Salomon was a character and an irrepressible spirit who amused and entertained the world until his last days. He was quick with a joke, strong in opinion, and always there with a helping hand. He was an entrepreneur at heart and ran many businesses including Pet Shops and Trade Shows. A natural born salesman, he could sell ice to Eskimos.
He was born October 23, 1927 in New York City and he passed away at the age of 90 on January 13, 2018. He served in the Navy as a Seaman Second Class and then an Aviation Man for 5 years from 1945 to 1950, on 10 different ships, and earned 3 medals all while lying about his age to join early. He married Betty Colleran on June 29, 1957. Joe was a devoted husband who doted on and cared for Betty until her death 17 years ago.
Joe is survived by a variety of nephews and nieces who he took on many adventures, employed, and sheltered at various times. Joe was known to take his nephews and nieces fishing on his boat and shooting at his upstate house. He was a constant fixture in their lives and enlivened many a gathering with his stories and adventures.
A funeral service will be held for Joe at 2PM on Sunday, January 28, 2018 at Coltrain Funeral Home, LLC, 134 River Street in Middleburgh. All are invited to a visitation from 1-2PM at the funeral home, prior to the service. Spring interment will be in Keyserkill cemetery, beside his beloved Betty.
