Obituary

Middleburgh: Joseph Falcone, 90, of Anderson Road, passed away on Sunday, April 9, 2017 at The Grand Nursing and Rehabilitation in Guilderland.


Joe was born on September 20, 1926 in Boston, MA to Angelina (Tamberino) and Henry Falcone.


He graduated from Stuyvesant High School in Manhattan in 1944 and served in the United States Army from 1944 to 1946 in the South Pacific and Luson-Leyle, Japan.


Following his honorable discharge, Joe worked for the NYC Transit Authority from 1946 to 1985.  He started as a clerk typist, then bus driver and worked his way up to Chief Surface Line Dispatcher before retiring.


In retirement, Joe moved from Hempstead to Middleburgh where he and his wife started a sheep farm and joined the Schoharie County Shepherd's Association.


Joe was an avid hunter and archery instructor and formed the Bow Gun Rod Hunting Club in Hempstead.


Locally, Joe was a member of the Timothy Murphy Post 248 American Legion and the Middleburgh Golden Age Club.  He enjoyed traveling with the Golden Agers on many bus trips , doing crossword puzzles and also light carpentry work.


Joe was predeceased by his son: Mark Joseph Falcone in 1987 and brother: Anthony "Buddy" Falcone in 2014.


He was married to Gloria Treskelin on October 7, 1950 and proudly celebrated their 66th anniversary last year. Gloria survives him along with their children: Mike (Diane) Falcone, Karen (George) Wylie, Laurie (Peter) Onorio, Lorri (Jimmy) O'Malley, Patty (Allen) Turner, 10 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.


A Memorial service will be held at 11AM on Tuesday, April 18, 2017 at St. Mark's Lutheran Church, Main Street, Middleburgh with Reverend Carol Coltrain officiating.  Military Honors will follow the service at church and inurnment will be private.  All are invited to attend a period of visitation from 6-8pm at Coltrain Funeral Home, LLC, 134 River Street, Middleburgh on Monday, April 17, 2017.
