Josef
Sorgen
September 22, 1951 – April 17, 2026
Josef Sorgen, a devoted family man, beloved husband, and pioneering textile engineer, passed away peacefully on April 17, 2026, at home. Born on September 22, 1951, in Langel, Koln, Germany, Josef’s life was marked by a love for the outdoors, a strong work ethic and commitment to those closest to him.
Growing up on a family farm near the Rhine River in Langel, Josef developed an early appreciation for nature, spending his childhood playing with friends in the fields, by the river, and around the village.
Josef enrolled at the University of Münster in the early 1970s, where he earned a master’s degree in Textile Engineering. His academic path was briefly interrupted when he was drafted to serve in the German Federal Border Protection Force. After completing his education, Josef’s passion for textiles took him to several countries, gaining rich international experience.
In 1977, Josef relocated to the United States, where he played a crucial role in helping to establish Interknitting, a textile company in Cobleskill, New York. His expertise and leadership helped grow the company, and he continued to work in the textile industry, moving to Massachusetts before ultimately returning to the Schoharie Valley region. In 2001, Josef purchased a home in Middleburgh, New York, where he founded TTCS, an independent textile consulting business. His career spanned many years and many miles, marked by determination and innovation until his retirement. Josef’s passion for playing soccer throughout his life led him to coaching several teams in the U.S. over the years.
Retirement added to Josef’s zeal for life. He embraced new hobbies such as gardening and woodworking, all while nurturing his enduring love for the great outdoors.
Josef is survived by his loving wife: Christine (Armlin) Sorgen; his daughters: Erika Sorgen-Bull and her husband Horace Bull and Angelica Armlin-Sorgen and her partner Josh Foust; and his cherished grandson: Geralt Ryder Sorgen-Bull. He was predeceased by his mother: Helene Elsen (Bädorf); his father: Matthias Sorgen; and his three brothers: Hans, Jakob, and Wilhelm (Willi) Sorgen.
A celebration of life will be held at the convenience of Josef's family, and they thank you for remembering him and them through this time.
