Cole
November 4, 1946 – April 26, 2025
Ivan D. Cole, of Summit, NY, found eternal peace on Saturday, April 26, 2025. Ivan was born on the family farm in Jefferson, NY on November 4, 1946 to Nellie (Foote) and Orien Cole. He graduated from Richmondville Central School in 1964 and went on to SUNY Cobleskill. He had a passion for riding horses and raising them.
Dedicated to his community, Ivan bravely and selflessly served with the Summit Fire Department for over 60 years, holding the positions of Commissioner and currently Captain of the Fire Police and member of their support service. He rode with the Summit Rescue Squad for a number of years and was past Vice President of the Schoharie County Fire Police.
Ivan followed in his father's footsteps and was affiliated with the Free and Accepted Masons of New York since the age of 23. He was Raised to the Sublime Degree of Master Mason in 1969 at Working Lodge #554 in Jefferson, NY. He served ten terms as Worshipful Master and was honored by his Brothers with the Masonic Distinguished Service Award. In 2018, Ivan helped shepherd Working Lodge through a merger with Cobleskill Lodge # 394 where he continued as a member, was honored for 50 years in the fraternity in 2019 and served as Trustee since 2020.
Ivan served as Judge for the Town of Summit, he coached Little League and judged Team Penning for several years.
Loving Ivan forever are his wife: Jane (Hubert) Stevenson, whom he married on February 16, 1997; his daughters: Tina Cole, Dana (Brock) Cole, his step-daughter: Julie (Dr. Robert) Nelson; his sons: D'witt (Angela) Cole, his step-son: Jay (Tammy) Stevenson; his grandchildren: Bryan Blodgett, Mackenzie Blodgett, Tanner Cole, Savannah Cole, Hailey Spaulding, Emme Cole, Nell Cole, Luke Cole, Bethanie Weand, Heidi Weand, Jesse Wood, Jessica Nelson, Christopher Nelson, Samantha Hiss, Matthew Distler, Amelia Stevenson, Abigail Stevenson; many great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews; special friends: and countless kids and adults alike who knew him as "Poppy" or more and were blessed to have their hearts touched by his. Ivan was predeceased by his sisters: Freda Eckert, Nicki Jorgensen and Neoma Cole.
A funeral service will be held at 12:00PM on Friday, May 2, 2025 at Coltrain Funeral Home, LLC, 134 River Street, Middleburgh, NY with a Fireman's service and a Masonic service to follow. Interment will be in the East Jefferson Cemetery. All are invited to visit with Ivan's family from 11:00AM-12:00PM prior to the funeral on Friday.
