Obituary

Frederick Pomygalski, of Middleburgh, found eternal peace on Wednesday, September 9, 2026 from the warmth and love of his home.

Fred was born 89 years ago in Jersey City, N.J. on March 5, 1937, to Fay (Olszewski) and Stanley Pomygalski. The family moved to Hackensack, N.J. when Fred was 5 years old and after graduating Hackensack High School in 1956, Fred enlisted in the United States Air Force serving as a radar operator in Japan and New Mexico.

After being honorably discharged from the Air Force, Fred joined his father in establishing the Stanley Fay Cosmetic Company. He traveled throughout the United States promoting and selling the professional beauty products until selling the company in 1989.

In 1966, Fred and Ida bought their home in Middleburgh spending week-ends and vacations there enjoying country living. On November 15, 2026 they retired here.

Fred married Ida Mae (Lewandosky) on August 25, 1962 and together, they settled in Wood Ridge, N.J. raising their two sons. While in Wood Ridge, Fred was a member of the Shade Tree Committee and Wood Ridge Historical Society. He was a great neighbor and was rumored to have the best home garden in Wood Ridge.

Fred enjoyed gardening was especially proud of his tomatoes. Together Fred and Ida enjoyed travelling, especially to the Caribbean and Central America. Fred was a member of the Land Trust and the Middleburgh Historical Society and AMVETS 175. He was an avid scuba diver, loved long walks in the woods and listening to music, especially the 50’s jukebox music and country.

Fred is survived by his wife of 64 years Ida Mae; his sons: Glen and wife Shelly who live in Glendive, MT. and Scott and wife Edna who lives in Woodcliff Lake, N.J.; his granddaughters: Harlow of Woodcliff Lake, NJ and Valeriya of York, PA; his great-granddaughter: Viktoriya of York, PA; his sister: Norma McCaffrey of Old Bridge, NJ; and nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents and his brother: Ronnie.

Fred's family wishes to extend their appreciation to Fred's caregivers, Holly Trombley, Madi Bevins and Helios for their help and support.

All are invited to a visitation with Fred's family from 11:00-12:00 PM on Monday, September 14, 2026 at Coltrain Funeral Home, LLC 134 River Street, Middleburgh, NY 12122. A funeral service will be held at 12:00PM, following the visitation, concluding with Military Honors. Inurnment will take place privately, at a later date
