Obituary

Huntersland – Faith, hope and love, but the greatest is love. Evelyn Nebauer knew these to be true and emulated each of them through all of her 87 years until she found eternal peace in the warmth of her home, surrounded by her loving family on Friday, September 4, 2020.

Evelyn was born on March 6, 1933 in Jamaica, Queens to Clara (Dorsch) and Henry Wieduwilt and filled her life with precious moments and memories. Whether it was raising her family, leading her daughters' Girl Scout Troop, or tending to her animals, Evelyn's inner strength, German pride and loving stubbornness was unmatched. As was her cooking and baking, filling holiday tables with seasonal favorites and sharing Christmas cookies far and wide with family and friends. The greatest way to find yourself is to lose yourself while helping others. Evelyn was no exception, sharing her home as a foster care parent for nearly 20 years for a special little girl.

Evelyn was a former member of the Huntersland Volunteer Fire Dept. Ladies Auxiliary and a 40-year member of the Huntersland United Methodist Church. She was also an active member of the Cooperstown and Charlotte Valley Railroad along with her husband Ed, and rode many miles of scenic track in their own Delaware and Hudson caboose which they restored.

Evelyn was predeceased by her husband of 56 years, Edmund Nebauer; her son: Gary Nebauer and her foster-daughter: Kristy Wilkins. Her love and memory will be held forever by her daughters: Linda (Harold) Guest of Huntersland and Laurie (John) Rotondaro of Colonie; her son: Chris Nebauer; her grandchildren: Cheryl (Jack) Rechnitzer, Sara (Matt) Miller, Elena (Joe) Swaha, Katelyn (Randall) Brobson and Jacqueline Rotondaro (Devin Appel), Brandon, Trish and Justin Nebauer; her great-grandchildren: Kiley and Elijah Rechnitzer, Caleb and Mason Miller and Logan, Amelia and Wyatt Swaha; her dear friends: Richie Caruso, Betty and Al Barman, Carol and Pete Paddock, Audrey and Bill Stumpf and also her church family and many friends. Evelyn will also be loved forever by her beautiful rescue companion, Benji.

All are invited to a visitation with her family from 12-2:00PM on Tuesday, September 15, 2020 at Coltrain Funeral Home, LLC, 134 River Street, Middleburgh. Facial protection and social distancing will be respected by all.  Private inurnment will take place in Middleburgh Cemetery.
