Obituary

Middleburgh – In the comfort of his home, Barry R. Zach, 73, passed early Friday morning, February 28, 2020, in the loving arms of his wife, Patricia.

Barry, who was predeceased by his parents, Marion (Wood) and Frank Zach, Jr., was born on July 7, 1946.  Growing up, he worked the family farm while attending Middleburgh Central School. There he graduated with the class of 1964 and made a name for himself in soccer and track and field.  He continued his education at both SUNY Cobleskill and the University of Western Kentucky, earning his BS in Biology.

Barry also served in the United States Army National Guard for defense mapping (4 CL SPC; 1971-77) before returning to work beside his father once again on the family farm.  It is there Barry and Patty raised their 5 daughters continuing to work the family farm.

Barry was a life-long sportsman and took pride in conservation, having great respect for all creatures and the land.  He wrote numerous articles on outdoor sporting and conservation.  Barry especially enjoyed duck hunting with his brother and faithful Lab, Sam.

After transitioning the dairy farm to raising beef cattle, Barry worked at Sharon Springs Garage, meeting and assisting next generation farmers.

He will live forever in the memories of his wife of 48 years, Patricia (Gorman) Zach, and his daughters: Brynda (Richard) Shultes, Diane (Mark) Truesdell, Jennifer (Paul) Ruszkiewicz Teresa (Andrew) Chavez, Lisa (Daniel) Robert; his grandchildren: Carolyne and Cameryn Shultes, Morgan and Eric Truesdell, John and Ashley Ruszkiewicz, Izabella, Zachary, Ezekiel Chavez, Henry and Frank Robert; his brother: Dennis (Barbara) Zach; his nieces and nephews; his aunt: Alice Zach and cousins.

A funeral service will be at 1:00PM on Saturday, March 7, 2020 at Coltrain Funeral Home, LLC, 134 River Street, Middleburgh with Pastor Maryellen Moore officiating.  Spring interment will be in Keyserkill Cemetery. All are invited to visit with his family from 11:00AM-1:00PM on Saturday, prior to the funeral.
