Obituary

Every now and then, a truly unique person enters the world. And that happened on December 19, 1929.  Born in Sheepshead Bay, Anthony Yung, or Tony as most knew him, spent the better part of 93 years being anything but average.  In the end, the spirit always outlasts the body and on June 18, 2022 Tony passed peacefully, after a short illness, surrounded by loving friends and family.

A man of many talents, he spent much of his time tinkering on one mechanical project or another, whether it was at home or a neighbor's, fixing something or lending a hand.  After returning from the Army, where he served in the motor pool during the Korean war, he worked at Walter motortrucks for many years, following the company from New York City to the Capital region before needing to pursue other things.  While it was well known to make sure you called before you stopped by, more for your own sake than his, Tony was happy to welcome visitors "naturally."  He admired beauty in many forms and had little filter when expressing himself.  While he could easily make people blush, he was just as handy at bringing a laugh or a smile.

After living in the Capital region for a while, he made Schoharie County his home and served as Town of Broome Justice for 18 years.  In addition to his beloved blueberry patch, hunting and fishing were some of his lifelong hobbies, along with photography, computers and ham radio operation.

Tony's surviving family include his children: Trudy (Mike) Hotaling of Rochester, Peter Yung, Joseph (Melissa) Yung, and Stephen (Becky) Yung, all of Middleburgh; sisters: Catherine, Patricia, Joan and Dorothy; a multitude of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.  He was predeceased by his daughter: Sarah; his siblings: John Yung, Fred Yung, Mary Cahill and Alice Stanton.

His smile, whit and lust for life will be remembered by many.  A celebration of Tony's life will be planned at a future date to be announced.

Tony's family would like to extend thanks to his longtime health aid Nicole Bartlett for helping make his life safe and comfortable, to the ICU staff at Samaritan Hospital for their help in his passing with dignity and grace and to Linda, for being a Saint.

Memorial donations in Tony's honor are requested to any Veteran's group or organization of choice and random acts of kindness to those in need are another great way to honor his spirit and pay it forward.

Coltrain Funeral Home, LLC, of Middleburgh is honored to be caring for Tony and his family.
