IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Alice Wyckoff
Hinmann
August 19, 1931 – October 20, 2024
Alice Wyckoff Hinman passed away peacefully on October 20, 2024, at the age of 93. She was born on August 19, 1931, in Freehold, NY, to Fred and Emily Simpson.
Growing up during the Great Depression, Alice's family faced many challenges, especially after her father was tragically blinded in a hunting accident. At a young age, Alice began preparing meals over a wood fire for her family, a skill that later blossomed into her lifelong passion for
cooking and baking.
In 1950, Alice married Walter E. Wyckoff of Gilboa, NY and together they raised their
family on their farm on Wyckoff Road. Alice often said it was the most beautiful road in
the country. A devoted farmhand and gifted cook, she could be found driving tractors
and haying fields by day, then preparing hearty meals for family and farmhands by
evening. Her home was often the heart of gatherings where friends and family fondly
remember her warmth, generosity, and endless supply of delicious food.
After 30 years of marriage, Alice lost Walter in 1984. In 1990 she married Bob Hinman,
who became her companion for 30 wonderful years. Alice cherished her time with her
family, living a rich and fulfilling life. In her later years, she developed a love for stained
glass art, creating lamps, windows, and ornaments that are now treasured pieces within
her family.
Alice is survived by: her sister Emily Story; her four sons: Harry (Judy), George (Pauline),
Jim (Mary), and Walter Fred (Kristen) Wyckoff; stepdaughters: Diane and Lynn Hinman;
and her grandchildren: Scott Mattice (Candy), Patrick Mattice (Shannon), Donald
Wyckoff (Sarah), Dean Wyckoff (Nancy), Joseph Wyckoff (Linda), Trista Shultes, Ransom
Wyckoff, John Wyckoff (Jill), Alicia Van Zandt (Mike), Marilyn Pylinski (Preston), and
Delana Wyckoff. She is also survived by fifteen great-grandchildren, one great-greatgrandchild
and many nieces and nephews.
Alice was predeceased by her brothers Dean and Fred Simpson, her sister Elsie Kennard,
and grandson-in-law Daniel Shultes.
Alice's life was a testament to hard work, love, and creativity, and she will be dearly
missed by all who knew her. A Celebration of Life will be held in June of 2025, with details to be shared closer to that date.
