Richard David Chancey

Middleburgh – Richard David Chancey, passed away peacefully, after a long illness, on July 24, 2019.

He was born September 3, 1955 in Cincinnati, OH, to Charles C. and Carol R. (Casto) Chancey, Jr.

David received his B.S. degree in Sociology at Miami University in Oxford, OH, in 1977 and his M.A. in City/Urban, Community and Regional Planning at the University of Iowa in 1979.  His past professional experience included Vice President of Felician College, NJ and President, Direct Marketing Educational Foundation in New York City.

David was co-founder, with his husband Doug, of W. Whitman Books in Middleburgh, bringing his passion for reading and love of books to others.  He was also involved in many school committees and local business initiatives and brought his cheerful nature and beautiful smile into every activity.

David also loved the peace and beauty of his garden and bringing the bounty of his efforts to his kitchen, cooking for his loved ones and friends.

He will be loved forever by his husband of 40 years, H. Douglas Guevara and his sons: Matthew and Benjamin Guevara-Chancey; his nieces: Elissa Gittings and her husband Ray, Gabrielle Charbonneau and her daughters Lexi and Madeline; his nephew: Jean Paul Charbonneau, along with many friends and colleagues who will all deeply miss him.

A funeral service in honor of David’s life will be held at 12PM on Monday, July 29, 2019 at Coltrain Funeral Home, LLC 134 River Street, Middleburgh with Pastor Maryellen Moore officiating.  Burial will follow in Middleburgh Cemetery. All are invited to visit with David’s family from 10AM to 12PM on Monday, prior to the funeral.
