Gilboa - James Dennis O’Meara found eternal peace on Wednesday August 28, 2019 in Cooperstown, New York.
James was born in Winsted, Connecticut on October 11,1943 to the late James R. and Arlene M. O’Meara.
James is survived by his beloved and dedicated wife, Judith (Dudley) and spent fifty-four loving years together. James and Judy welcomed two cherished children into the world: Deborah A. Whelan and her husband Charles and Timothy S. O’Meara and his wife Kim. James had three adored grandchildren: Stephanie A. Knap and her husband Luke, Timothy J. O’Meara and Erik J. O’Meara, whom he loved very much. His grandchildren referred to him as “Dado” a Celtic term for grandfather. James was the eldest of four siblings of whom he shared a close bond with and he is survived by his sister, Judith A. Richard, his brother Daniel B. O’Meara in addition to his sister-in-law Jean Hoagland and her husband Kenneth, and sister-in-law Alice O’ Meara. He was predeceased by his brother: Gerald B. O’Meara. James is also survived by many nieces, nephews and other cherished family and friends.
In his earlier years, James attended The Gilbert School class of 1962 and received higher education at The Hartford Institute of Accounting. James spent many years working at IBM, greatly enjoyed his civic duties as Mayor of Winsted, and being involved within the Gilboa-Conesville community. Throughout his life, James thoroughly enjoyed being a mentor to others and held tightly to his faith and relationship with God. His strong demeanor, compassion and genuine love touched so many lives.
James’s happiest moments were spent with his wife Judy at their peaceful homestead in the Catskill mountains. He enjoyed indulging in the history of his Irish roots, cooking, gardening, hunting, working on carpentry, watching baseball, and giving lots of cuddles to his adored black labs and cocker spaniel Daisy. James’s spirit will forever live on. “Veni Vidi Vici”
A memorial service with be held at Flat Creek Baptist Church, Flat Creek Road, Gilboa, NY at 1:00PM on Saturday, September 7, 2019 with a reception to follow.
A celebration of life will also be held at The Grange in Winchester Center, Connecticut on September 14, 2019 with a remembrance reception from 1- 4 pm.
James’s family requests making memorial donations to the Lymphoma and Leukemia Society or a charity of choice in his honor
