Middleburgh: Howard A. Bartholomew, 78, of Clauverwie, died Friday, September 1, 2017 at Bassett Medical Center in Cooperstown.

Howard was born in Albany on June 22, 1939 to Dorothy (Bell) and Floyd Bartholomew, Sr.

He attended Middleburgh Central School before serving in the United States Army, during the Korean War, from 1958 until his honorable discharge in 1961.

Working in construction most of his life, Howard owned Bartholomew Construction Company, worked for Syrstone Construction and most recently worked as a foreman with JJP Slip Forming in Middleburgh before retiring.

  With a great sense of humor and a charming smile, he was liked by everyone that met him.  A talented mason, his speed and accuracy produced beautiful work.  He also enjoyed tending to his gardens and plants around his home, golfing and playing cards, especially pinochle.

He was a communicant of Our Lady of the Valley Catholic church, a member of the Knights of Columbus Council 4475, serving as past Grand Knight and past District Deputy, also Bricklayers Allied Craftsmen Union Local 2 and the United Masons Union.

Besides his parents, Howard was predeceased by his brother: Floyd Bartholomew, Jr.; parents-in-law: Rita and William Neiles; brothers-in-law: Louis DelSignore, William Neiles; sister-in-law: Madeline Bartholomew

A loving, generous and caring man, Howard centered his life around his family, including his wife: Adrienne Bartholomew, whom he married on December 14, 1958 and daughters: Kelly Fancher (Richard Hardendorf), Lenora Piragoli and Susan (Joseph) Bartholomew-Fydenkevez all of Middleburgh; son: Michael Bartholomew of Shelter Island; beloved member of the family: John Sieni of Shelter Island; grandchildren: Daniel, LeeAnne, James, Kayla, Andrew, Kimberly, Elizabeth, Nicholas, Emily; great-grandchildren: Sophia, Nevaeh, Adrienne, Serenity, Danica, Shea, Evan; sisters: Patricia DelSignore of Naples, FL, Sandra (Robert) Johnston of Veto Beach, FL; brothers: William (Sylvia) Bartholomew of New Smyrna Beach, FL, Larry (Mari)Bartholomew of Ames, Douglas (Jody) Bartholomew of Middleburgh, Phillip (Beth) Bartholomew of Deland, FL, Garry (June) Bartholomew of Middleburgh; many nieces and nephews.

Howard’s family would like to thank all of his home health aides, doctors and ICU staff at Bassett Medical Center for their care.

 A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11AM on Wednesday, September 6, 2017 at Our Lady of the Valley Catholic Church, Main Street, Middleburgh.  All are invited to a visitation on Tuesday, September 5, 2017 from 6-8PM at Coltrain Funeral Home LLC, 134 River Street, Middleburgh.  Interment, with Military Honors will be in Breakabeen Cemetery.
