In the 1940's Harold and his older brother Alfred lived with their parents upstairs from me and my family in Brooklyn, NY. Their Mom was from Trieste. My 2 younger sisters, my older brother, and myself stayed one summer at their farm place in Schoharie County, NY. The year was probably 1947 or 48. My Mom was seriously ill and hospitalized, therefore, we children were invited by The Zoch elders to spend the summer there. Deepest regrets on Harold & Alfred's passing. God bless. Rose Menziuso

I met Harold Zoch in summer 2015 on a road trip crossing the US together with my son. We randomly stopped at Schoharie's Old Stone Fort which we had seen from the street. There he sat in the shadow of the once Dutch Reformed Church, dressed in historic the attire of an American Revolutionary. I will never forget the afternoon we chatted away there, me sitting on the grass to his feet, talking about the history of Schoharie county, on Dutch and German immigrants, the religious beliefs and denominations they brought with them, on the French and Indian War which was in fact a first "world war". Harold was such an erudite and kind man. I am grateful for this serendipitous encounter. I've been hurt to read he passed away last year. My sincere condolences to his family. May he rest in eternal peace.

Just read about Harold's passing last night. Saddens me to see that this has come to pass. We all considered Harold a dear friend and a great source of information for many years. The loss of first your Mom and now your Dad, leaves a void in our lives, while nothing like the one you are experiencing, one that will be impossible to fill....the memories being so varied and fulfilling. So pleased to have known him. Hugs to all of you. Found out too late to join you in person, but am with you in thoughts and feelings.

I am saddened to learn of the loss of Harold Zoch. He was my good friend and colleague in archeology, Dutch barn studies, and historic preservation for many years. He made many contributions in these areas, and he is greatly missed. He had an influence on my own life, and I always knew where to go for information on Schoharie history.
