Frank E. Eberli, 90, formerly of Middleburgh, passed away on July 1, 2018 with his family by his side.
Frank was born February 19, 1928 in Giswil, Switzerland into a large family. He told everyone he had seven brothers and each of them had three sisters. His adventurous spirit led him to the US and Canada where he traveled and worked throughout the 1950's. He married Marie Neff in 1960 and they moved their family and business from Queens, NY to the Schoharie Valley town of Middleburgh in 1969. When asked why they chose Middleburgh, he said the beautiful valley reminded them of their homeland.
Frank dedicated himself to his European learned trade as a butcher and sausage maker, plus found time to farm acres of fruit trees. He and Marie ran the Alpine Meat & Sausage and Alpine Orchards for over 30 years. After retirement the nature-loving Frank never missed the opportunity to work outdoors or hike Vroman's Nose and even found his inner artist by becoming an avid woodcarver. His final years were spent in comfort at the Teresian House in Albany, thanks to the gentle and kind caregivers and residents and the loving support of his daughter, Barbara.
Frank was predeceased by his wife of 56 years, Marie, and is survived by his three children: Barbara Hamlin and husband Michael of Burnt Hills, NY; Daniel Eberli and wife Liza of Ludlow, MA; and Madelaine Eberli Moskowitz and husband Geoffrey residing in Moscow, Russia. He is also survived by five grandchildren: Olivia, Hannah and Jacob Eberli and Ivan and Mikaela Moskowitz.
Coltrain Funeral Home, LLC., of Middleburgh is honored to be caring for Frank and his family.
All are invited to a memorial ceremony for Frank on Thursday, July 12, 2018 at 11am at the Infant of Prague Chapel at the Teresian House, 200 Washington Avenue Ext., Albany.
Memorials may be made to the Food Pantry of Middleburgh, P.O. Box 112, Middleburgh, New York 12122 or the charity of your choice.
