Middleburgh – David L. Coons, of Main Street, took a final breath on Monday, June 24, 2019, letting his earthly pain and strife resolve into peace.
David was born in Schenectady on October 27, 1948 to Ruth (Haviland) and Harold Coons, who both predeceased him.
Growing up, David was a Boy Scout, played soccer, was a member of the Key Club, the National Honor Society, graduated from Middleburgh Central School and went on to earn his Civil Engineering degree from Northeastern University in Boston, in 1972.
A Master Contractor, he owned David L. Coons and Son Contracting for 50 years and proudly stayed available 24 hours a day, to serve the community in need of plumbing and refrigeration repair and much more. David was a member of the Electric League in the Schoharie Valley and served his community in many capacities through the years as Town Board member, DPW Superintendent and as Waste Water Operator for 27 years.
David was a former member and past President of the Middleburgh Rotary Club and was a member of the Middleburgh Volunteer Fire Department, serving as Fire Chief from 1997-2002.
A role model, much like his own father Harold, of quiet confidence, generosity and compassion, David’s spirit soared the highest when he gave of himself to serve anyone in need and literally, as he piloted his airplane through blue skies over the beautiful valley. He also loved fishing, golfing and his Oliver tractor.
Cherishing his love and memory forever are his wife of 50 years, Brenda (Rundle) Coons of Middleburgh; sons: Gregory (Joanna) Coons of Charlotteville, Jonathan (Erica) Coons of Middleburgh; sister: Barbara (Pat) Coons of Middleburgh; brother: Bruce (BJ) Coons of Springboro, OH.; granddaughters: Savannah Coons, Cassidy Coons; step-grandson: James (Kiersten) McBain; many nieces, nephews extended family including Lyn and Frank Herodes of Middleburgh along with immeasurable friends and colleagues.
