Dale G. Herodes

Middleburgh – Dale Geraldine Dietz Herodes, 78, died Monday, September 3, 2018 surrounded by her loving family.

Dale was born in Perth Amboy, NJ on Sept 13, 1939 to Lillian Eckert and Charles Dietz.

Dale graduated from Jefferson High School in 1957 and received a BS in Physical Education and Hygiene from Cortland College in 1961.  She also received graduate credits from Cortland, Oneonta, Albany State and Hope Colleges.

She started teaching physical education and coaching at Middleburgh in 1961, leaving for a few years to start her family and then returning.  After her retirement from Middleburgh, she taught and coached at Duanesburg and taught physical education at Margaretville School. Dale’s biggest passion was her coaching. She enjoyed working with kids and absolutely loved competition and sports. She played a very influential part in ensuring equity in athletics for girls. She achieved tremendous coaching success at Middleburgh, winning multiple League and Sectional championships in Basketball and Softball.  Dale was also a Volleyball referee for many years.   Her other passions included flowers, golf, quilting, nature and animals, though none as strong as her love and passion for her family.

Cherishing her life and love are her children: Cynthia Stewart, of Middleburgh, Robert “Bobby Joe” Herodes and his wife Jennifer, of Lagrangeville, Susan Herodes, of Jefferson and Joan VanDyke and her husband Mark of Deale, MD; her grandchildren: Steven Stewart, Melissa Stewart, Anna Stewart, Anton Herodes, Aiden Herodes, Avery Herodes, Holden Herodes, Megan VanDyke, Robert VanDyke, Cristin Andrade and Jonathan VanDyke; her great-grandchildren: Eileen Andrade, Finn Andrade, Liam VanDyke, Landon VanDyke, Olivia VanDyke, Jack VanDyke and Caia Alem; her siblings: Lynn Whitmer of Palm Coast FL, Charles Dietz and his wife Joanne of Idaho Falls, ID

A memorial service will be held at 3PM on Saturday, September 15, 2018 at Coltrain Funeral Home, LLC, 134 River Street, Middleburgh with Rev. Ray Richards from Calvary Assembly of God officiating.  All are invited to visit with Dale’s family at the funeral home from 1-3PM, prior to the memorial service.

Dale’s family requests memorial donations for a park bench, in her name and any excess donations will be forwarded to the Shriner’s Hospital in her memory. Donations are asked to be sent in care of Susan Herodes, 325 Nichols Road, Jefferson, NY 12093.
