Middleburgh- Clara G. Mickle, 88, of Church Street, was welcomed to Heaven on Thursday, March 15, 2018 from Ellis Hospital, following declining health.
Born on June 10, 1929 in the Town of Fulton to Flossie (Diamond) and Menzo Schrom, Clara attended and graduated from Middleburgh Central School. Fitting her keen eyes and sharp wit, spotting planes during World War II was her first job. She went on to work at many other locations over the years including New York State, SUNY Cobleskill and most recently with genealogy at the Old Stone Fort in Schoharie.
Clara lived for genealogy, preserving history and sharing stories of the past. She was an active member of the Town of Fulton Historical Society, the Century Club and volunteered at the Best House Medical Exhibit in Middleburgh. A loving spirit, gifted artistically in many ways, Clara enjoyed quilting, crocheting, and teaching ceramics. She was an avid bowler and also enjoyed watching summer ball games.
Beyond her love of genealogy, her loving spirit, kindness, faith and devotion to her church encompassed her life, helping to keep St. Paul’s Episcopal Church open and active in her community.
Clara was predeceased by her husband, Donald Mickle and her 2 siblings.
Cherishing her memory are her daughters: Laura (Ted) Bochenek of Scotia, Deveral Watson of Fultonham, Beth (David) Packard of Middleburgh, Amy (Chris) Fain of Middleburgh; sons: Stephen (Laurie) Mickle of Scotia, Scotte (Teresa) Mickle of Fultonham; 14 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00AM, Monday, March 19, 2018 at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, Church Street, West Middleburgh with Father Richard Layman officiating. Spring interment will be in Middleburgh Cemetery. All are invited to visit with Clara’s family from 4-6PM on Sunday, March 18, 2018 at Coltrain Funeral Home, LLC, 134 River Street, Middleburgh.
