Welcome to the memorial page for

William James Moorhead

November 2, 1934 ~ February 11, 2017 (age 82) 82 Years Old

Bill Moorhead, long-time resident of Middleburgh, passed peacefully from this life on Saturday, February 11, 2017, after receiving wonderful and attentive care from the staff at the Bassett Medical Center in Cooperstown.

Bill was born in the Bronx, New York on November 2, 1934. He leaves his wife of 55 years, Mary Ann (Serp) Moorhead; his son, William (Bill) Moorhead; his daughters, Mary Randall (Scott) and Kathleen Moorhead-Paton (Scott); his sister, Ruth Davis; nephew Bon Davis; and nine grandchildren: Brian Randall, Thomas Randall, Isabella Randall, Taylor Alix, Brianna Alix, KayLee Alix, Ashley Paton, Zachary Paton and Ashley Moorhead. Bill was preceded in death by his mother, Helen Moorhead, and father, William Moorhead.

Bill met his loving wife, Mary Ann, at a dance hall in Queens in 1961. Struck by an overwhelming sense of love at first sight, Mary Ann was smitten by Bill’s James Dean-like stature and Frank Sinatra eyes. They married the following year, and began their life together in Lindenhurst, Long Island. Bill and Mary Ann were blessed with three loving children, and remained committed to each other and their wedding vows, being there for each other in sickness and in health.

Bill was known for his ability to fix and build anything with his hands – and provided the biggest gift to his family by moving to upstate New York and restoring the house that would become the family home and location of many loving and everlasting memories. Bill’s talents extended to his love of motor sports, starting with racing his own cars in the late 1950’s and continuing with his long-time hobby of being an auto sports fan.

Bill had a long and dedicated career as a long-haul truck driver, starting with owning his own trucks. Then driving for many years for Babylon Dairy and Roadway before ending his career with Albany Transport, Inc. This career allowed Bill to see wonderful parts of the country that few are able to experience.

Bill’s biggest joy in his life was spending time with his family. He adored his doting and caring wife, Mary Ann, and was truly at peace when the two of them were together. He was very proud of his three children and adored all his grandchildren. Bill always enjoyed the many birthday parties, holiday get-togethers, and family vacations. Bill also had a passion for animals and could often be seen riding his bike with his trusted four-legged friend, Barney, by his side.

A period of visitation will be held from 5:00PM-6:00PM on Thursday, February 16, 2017 prior to a memorial service at 6:00PM, at Palmer & Shaylor Funeral Home, 134 River Street, Middleburgh, NY with Rev. Carol Coltrain of the Huntersland United Methodist Church officiating.
