Gilboa: Virginia E. Peterson, 94, formerly of Guinea Road, died Monday, February 13, 2017 at Rosewood Garden in Rensselaer, surrounded by her family.
Virginia was born on April 1, 1922 in Gilboa to Belle (Traver) and David Birdsley Moore.
She graduated from Gilboa Central School and studied home economics at Syracuse University before attending dental hygiene school in Rochester.
Virginia worked for a year in Roxford, NY before becoming a civilian dental hygienist, in the United States Army, during World War II.
She returned to Gilboa following the war, married Harold Peterson and enjoyed raising her family, working the family farm and caring for and naming the cows. She operated Milkhouse Ceramics for many years as well.
Virginia loved spending time with her family, gardening, sewing, crocheting and knitting.
She was a member of the Timothy Murphy Post # 248 American Legion Ladies Auxilary, St. Mark's Lutheran Church in Middleburgh and the Lutheran Church of the Holy Spirit in Albany.
Virginia was predeceased by her husband: Harold Peterson, sister: Thelma Serrie; brother: Louis Moore.
She is survived by her daughters: Kristina Higgins of Westerlo, Rebecca Peterson of Albany, Valerie (Paul) Malloy of Preston Hollow; son: John (Joan) Peterson of Aurora, CO; 7 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00AM on Saturday, February 18, 2017 at St. Mark's Lutheran Church, Main Street, Middleburgh, NY, with Pastor David Preisinger officiating. There will be no formal visitation. Inurnment will be private.
